Welcome to SEQWater's Water Balance Model Calculator.

This calculator enables you to evaluate water saving devices, onsite waste-water disposal systems and land characteristics to determine how much land you require to establish an irrigation system which meets your specific needs.

Whether you are an individual or a business, the calculator helps provide you with an estimate of land size immediately. You can use the calculator in your home, office or out in the field from the internet, offering you the convenience of getting an answer when you need it.

The calculator has features relating to soil type, type of dwelling and onsite waste-water system capabilities with regard to nutrient loads. Once you have completed your calculations you have the option of saving; saving and sharing or simply printing them out. The sharing option enables you to complete a calculation and share it with other interested parties electronically - saving you both time and travel.

To ensure your specific needs are considered during the calculation, details such as soil type, type of dwelling, water supply and vegetation, particular to your development, can be entered. This means the calculation will give you a more accurate answer tailored to your household/development requirements. The calculator used in conjunction with the soon to be released SEQWater Development Guidelines 2007, will enable you to plan your development in a sustainable manner, incorporating a range of environmental considerations such as positioning of irrigation area, vegetation management and contingencies for wet weather events.

Remember, when considering a development, renovation or change of use to any non-sewered land, the site effluent disposal area must be factored in as it reduces the total land available for development. Factoring in these details not only results in a more precise response, but ensures your compliance to the On-Site Domestic Wastewater Australian and New Zealand Standards (AS NZS 1547-2000) for disposal of effluent.
